DEFUELD

Based in Stockholm, Defueld is a hard rock/heavy metal act that brings together all the best of the Swedish sound: heavy guitar-riffs, memorable melodies, soaring guitar solos and wicked rhythms. But not only does Defueld draw inspiration from classic rock and metal, but also from such disparate genres as dubstep and electro. This willingness to experiment was exemplified in 2008 when the group became the first metal act to tour Senegal, finishing with a stop just outside Dakar that attracted over 7,000 music lovers and national media attention. In March of 2009 the band self-produced and self-released their eponymous debut album, which went on to become the fourth best-selling metal album of the year in Sweden – not too shabby considering the complete lack of label backing. Now Defueld returns with their latest effort, Rorschach, a nine-track effort that’s a masterpiece in the making. The critics agree, with Sweden Rock magazine’s Jane Cedenberger proclaiming, “The Stockholm-based band’s second album contains nine awesome tracks with an exciting musical atmosphere…heaviness is mixed with groove and almost angelic harmonies, amazing keyboards, appealing lyrics, beautifully built choirs and vocal performances that really touch you.

LITTLE GREAT THINGS

Swedish pop-rock four-piece Little Great Things began with brothers Charlie (vocals, guitar) and Felix (drums, percussion), who have been playing together ever since they were old enough to pick up instruments. They certainly possess the bloodlines for music, as their grandfather is none other than Benny Andersson of ABBA renown. In 2013 the quartet adopted the name Little Great Things and started to write and record for their debut album. The group also hooked up with manager Jens Lundberg at Blue Lemon Management in 2013, who’s been formulating an international strategy for the group. Little Great Things’ debut single, “Set Yourself Free,” which fuses the musical DNA of Muse melded with Placebo in was mixed by Chris Sheldon (Jeff Beck, Roger Waters, Foo Fighters, Skunk Anansie), who will also be mixing the remaining tracks on the debut album. The tune recently made the Top 10 on the Swedish download chart after a February 2014 TV performance of the song before 3.5 million Swedish viewers. Having been introduced to their audience in such a grand manner, Little Great Things’ fan base is growing by the hour!

Here’s a bit of a throw back with Gaurds and their vibey single “Coming True.”

London’s Findlay have a sick song titled “Greasy Love” on their hands, and boy is it good!

LIVINGSTON

Livingston were founded in London, but relocated to Berlin in 2008, where they signed to Universal Music the following year. Their debut album Sign Language charted Top 20 in the German sales charts and was subsequently deemed the iTunes Newcomer “Album of the Year.” The band’s tours sold out and their hit single “Broken” brought them numerous accolades. However, two years later, when Livingston went on to record their second album Fire To Fire with acclaimed rock producer David Bottrill (Muse, Placebo, Tool), they made a miscalculation and bowed to label demands to go in a more commercial direction. After the resulting effort misfired, the group ended up parting ways with the label, whereupon they found a little cottage, a hunter’s cabin in the woods just outside Berlin, and started writing their third album, Animal. Animal is a record from artists who are free from the pressures of success and open to their own potential.
